A guy from Brighton Township is wanted for allegedly threatening his neighbor with a hammer, which led to a standoff with police.
Court records show that Colin Yurick, 32, did not show up for a probable cause hearing on October 17th in 53rd District Court in Howell. He was free on bond after putting up 10% of the $25,000 bond, or $2,000. Yurick missed his court date because he is allegedly getting help for his mental health.
Before the event on October 9, Yurick was charged with a single count of assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault). He was said to have threatened his 57-year-old neighbor with a hammer.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office sent deputies to the 5,000 block of Knowlson Drive to try to get in touch with Yurich, but they were unable to do so. The Office said that the Livingston County Regional Crisis Negotiation Team and Livingston Regional SWAT were called because of the crime and Yurick’s past criminal background. After several failed tries to talk to Yurick, a search warrant was issued. After some time, SWAT finally got in and arrested Yurick. There were no reports of accidents.
Yurick has a long criminal past, with convictions for things like destroying a building on purpose, assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a police officer, carrying a dangerous weapon with the intent to commit a crime, and stealing from an innkeeper.
In New York in 2020, Yurick pleaded guilty to a charge of trying to be dangerous to a police officer and was given an 18-month prison sentence. At that time, Yurick pointed a loaded air gun at a Vestal police officer who was stopping him for speeding. Yurick was hospitalized for six weeks after being shot by the cop.
