Massive Impact! New Orleans' Favorite Bywater Eatery Shuts Down Will Tacos Make a Comeback

MJP –

The St. Claude Avenue bywater site of Rosalita’s Backyard Tacos in New Orleans is closing.

Word of mouth spread slowly but steadily among the taco shop’s loyal customers that the eatery would be closing its doors on Saturday. This was confirmed by staff on Wednesday afternoon and reported by The Times-Picayune.

The Rosalita at 3304 St. Claude Ave. was founded by Laurie Casebonne and Ian Schnoebelen, who had previously worked for Shake Sugary. After selling their prior restaurant, Mariza, in 2018, the taco shop began as a pop-up.

After 19 years in the restaurant industry, Schnoebelen and his wife are looking for a vacation from the day-to-day operations of a brick-and-mortar. Nevertheless, the pair is contemplating going back to Rosalita’s roots.

So, there’s still a chance for additional tacos.

“We could do a taco Tuesday pop-up at bars,” according to him. “Unless somebody else wants to take it over.”

If someone is interested in taking up Rosalita’s business or bringing a fresh idea to the Bywater, Casebonne, and Schnoebelen would be happy to sell Rosalita’s premises.

The outdoor patio space, according to Schnoebelen, is a huge hit with diners in the hip New Orleans neighborhood.
