Oklahoma City — A tragic case that has shaken an entire neighborhood is now at the center of a homicide investigation after a 2-year-old girl was fatally mauled by a family dog. Oklahoma City police say the toddler, who would have turned 3 in just weeks, was left alone with the animal for an extended period of time. Her parents have since been arrested and charged with contributing to her death.
Toddler Mauled to Death Inside Family Home
Authorities responded to a welfare check late on Nov. 18 at a residence on Northeast 26th Street. When officers entered the home, they found 2-year-old Locklynn McGuire deceased.
Police quickly called in the department’s Crimes Against Children detectives after realizing the extent of the girl’s injuries.
According to OKCPD Staff Sergeant Dillon Quirk, investigators learned the child was alone in a room with one of the family’s four dogs when the attack occurred.
“They began an investigation and learned that the child was there in the room inside the home with an animal and received those injuries,” Quirk told, adding that Locklynn had been left unsupervised “for a substantial period of time before she was discovered deceased.”
The exact length of time the toddler was alone has not yet been made public, but police say the findings were significant enough to seek murder charges.
Parents Arrested on Murder Complaints
On Nov. 21, Locklynn’s parents, Jordan McGuire, 34, and Darci Lambert, 24, were arrested on complaints of second-degree murder. Police say the arrest stemmed from the severity of neglect uncovered during the investigation.
Detectives allege the toddler was left unattended with the dog long enough for the mauling to occur without intervention.
A police spokesperson described the scene as “deeply disturbing” and said the level of neglect met the standard for a homicide filing rather than an accidental death.
The family owned four dogs in total. Authorities have not released details about the breed of the animal responsible for the attack.
Community Heartbreak and Family Grief
The shocking death of the young girl has left relatives and community members reeling. A family GoFundMe was launched to help cover funeral costs, painting a picture of a child who was bright, joyful and deeply loved.
“Locklynn was pure light,” the fundraiser reads. “She was curious, gentle, and full of joy — the kind of little girl whose smile could brighten even the hardest day. She loved deeply and was deeply loved.”
Family members say their grief is compounded by the sudden, violent nature of her death.
Investigators Continue to Review Circumstances
While both parents have been arrested, police say the case remains open as detectives continue reviewing physical evidence, interviews and potential prior history of neglect.
The Oklahoma City Police Department has also been working with animal welfare officials to determine whether the dog involved had a documented history of aggression.
Authorities emphasized that the homicide complaint reflects the belief that Locklynn’s death was preventable — and that the prolonged lack of supervision constituted criminal recklessness.
More updates are expected as the case is prepared for prosecutors.
What Comes Next
McGuire and Lambert are currently being held while the district attorney reviews the case for formal charges. Second-degree murder in Oklahoma typically applies when a person engages in conduct showing “a depraved mind” without premeditation.
Loved ones say they are now focused on honoring Locklynn’s memory and supporting her siblings and extended family as they navigate unimaginable loss.
A funeral date has not yet been announced.
