Batavia, Illinois – Authorities say a well-known suburban chiropractor from Batavia, Illinois, has been accused of secretly videotaping dozens of patients, including minors, as they undressed in his office — sparking a major criminal investigation that now seeks to identify more potential victims.
According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, Dr. David Hanson, the owner of Hanson Family Chiropractic, faces multiple felony charges, including producing, disseminating, and possessing child pornography, as well as unauthorized video recording of a minor.
Hidden Cameras Found Throughout Office
Prosecutors allege that Hanson secretly installed cameras throughout his chiropractic office to record patients as they changed or unclothed for treatment. Investigators say more than 180 individuals were filmed without their consent — most of them female patients, ranging in age from children to adults.
“Many of the recordings appear to be taken from a red light room used for red light and near-infrared light therapy,” the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a statement.
The office, located at 1928 West Wilson Street in Batavia, was searched on Wednesday, leading to Hanson’s arrest later that night.
Child Exploitation Material Also Discovered
During the investigation, law enforcement officials reportedly discovered that Hanson also possessed and shared videos containing child sexual abuse material, though authorities clarified that those files were not connected to his chiropractic practice.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jaime Mosser condemned Hanson’s actions in an interview with NBC Chicago, saying:
“He knew he was doing wrong, and he knew how to hide it. That’s not a person we want in our community. Someone like this, who has no concern for the people he’s supposed to help, can’t be trusted.”
A “Trusted” Practitioner Under Fire
Hanson Family Chiropractic had been a respected name in the Batavia community. According to its website, the clinic had even been voted Kane County’s “best chiropractor.” Hanson claimed to hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the National University of Health Sciences and certifications in pediatrics and the Webster Technique for pregnant women.
These credentials and his reputation as a family practitioner have left many in the community stunned by the allegations.
Officials Seek More Victims
Authorities are now searching for additional victims who may have been unknowingly recorded. Investigators believe there could be more individuals affected by Hanson’s actions, given the number of videos discovered.
Anyone who believes they or a minor in their care may have been victimized is urged to contact the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office at (630) 444-3322 or email SAOVictimHotline@KaneCountyIL.gov.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Hanson appeared in court on Thursday and was ordered detained while awaiting trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 10.
As the case unfolds, officials are emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and the lasting impact on victims.
“This kind of betrayal of trust cuts deep — especially when it comes from someone in a position of care,” Mosser said.
