Authorities in New Jersey have arrested a father in connection with the death of his 8-week-old daughter, who was left in a hot car.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Monday, officials in Lakewood Township were alerted to the possibility of a newborn experiencing cardiac arrest. On the spot, the doctor declared the 8-week-old infant dead.
The killer left the infant in her father’s vehicle “for an extended period,” according to prosecutors’ statement Tuesday, which was found to be the reason and way of her death.
On Monday, the heat index—a measure of the temperature relative to humidity—soared to 107 degrees in Lakewood Township.
Prosecutors claim that 28-year-old Avraham Chaitovsky, the child’s father, is facing charges of harming the welfare of a child.
Additional charges may be forthcoming, as the investigation is still ongoing, according to authorities.
