Online Report! Kings' Devin Carter to Undergo Shoulder Surgery, Could Miss Season Opener

While the Sacramento Kings’ summer squad competes in the California Classic this weekend, Devin Carter will not be wearing a uniform. Amid that Kings’ Las Vegas competition next week, Carter will be having surgery.

Many sources have corroborated what Shams Charania of The Athletic first reported—that Carter will have shoulder surgery next week.

Charania said the procedure is comparable to what Kevin Huerter had last season, but other than that, Carter will reportedly miss the beginning of the season but will recover fully. Little else is known about the surgery.

Carter, who was the Providence Friars’ top player last season, is 23 years old. The Kings thought he could start right away and fill in for D’Aaron Fox.

At Providence, Carter found his scoring stride, shooting 37.7 percent from beyond the arc and averaging 19.7 points per game. He is now a formidable point-of-attack defender.

After missing preseason and training camp, his impact on the team this year is uncertain, although he will likely see action in Sacramento sometime.
