At a block party on the east side of Detroit on Sunday, a mass shooting occurred, killing two and injuring eighteen others.
At about 2.25 am local time, a gunman began fire on the gathering of partygoers in the vicinity, according to the Detroit police.
Tragically, a woman of 20 years old lost her life after being shot in the head. A man who was 21 years old was shot in the back and passed away at a nearby hospital.
The 22-year-old male suspect was apprehended after being shot in the leg during the assault.
He is in the hospital for recovery at the moment.
It is currently unclear if the suspect was shot by law police or by another partygoer.

Neither the victims’ nor the suspect’s identities have been made public.
Following the incident, police have promised to establish new regulations regarding block parties, according to 7 News Detroit.
“Tomorrow at a briefing with the chief and the mayor, DPD will present full details regarding a comprehensive new strategy they are implementing regarding block parties,” stated a police spokesperson.
The president of the Detroit City Council, Mary Sheffield, spoke out about the shooting on X.
Tragically, two young individuals lost their lives in today’s early morning mass shooting on Detroit’s east side; 21 young people, with an average age of 19, were shot, and I was horrified and appalled to hear about it, she wrote.
The scourge of gun violence in Detroit and the United States is once again brought home by this horrible incident. My condolences are with the relatives of the victims and with the community as a whole as we seek a new direction to put a stop to the terrible deaths and devastation that have befallen our town.
