Communities across Texas are getting ready to honor Martin Luther King Jr. with special events and celebrations leading up to MLK Day on Monday.
Here’s what’s happening in some of the major cities:
Arlington
Arlington is hosting a four-day celebration called “Advancing the Dream” from Jan. 17 to Jan. 20. Events include:
- Jan. 17: Advancing the Dream Gala
- Jan. 18: MLK Poetry meets Blues and R&B
- Jan. 19: MLK Hubert Moss Ecumenical Service
- Jan. 20: MLK Day of Service Festival and MLK Youth Extravaganza

Dallas
Dallas will host its 43rd Annual MLK Day Parade on Saturday, Jan. 18, starting at 10 a.m. at the Fair Park Pennsylvania entrance.
Expect over 250 participants, including community groups, bands, colorful floats, and more. The event is sponsored by H.E.L.P. with support from the city.
Denton
Denton’s MLK Jr. Parade will take place on Monday, Jan. 20, starting at 9 a.m. at Fred Moore Park.
The parade ends at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center and will be followed by fun activities like flag football.
Fort Worth
Fort Worth’s 40th Annual MLK Parade and Rally is set for Monday, Jan. 20. The parade begins at 11 a.m. at the corner of 9th and Commerce.
This event highlights unity, justice, and Dr. King’s vision for equality.
Austin
Austin has two major events to mark MLK Day:
- Freedom Run: This run starts at 7:30 a.m. at Richard Moya Park and is open to all ages and speeds.
- MLK Day March & Festival: A rally begins at 9:30 a.m. on the Capitol’s south steps, followed by a march to Huston-Tillotson University for a family-friendly festival with vendors and live music.
San Antonio
San Antonio will host its 38th Annual MLK March and Celebration on Monday, Jan. 20, starting at 10 a.m. The march begins at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy and ends at Pittman-Sullivan Park. Enjoy performances, a youth area, vendor booths, and a health and wellness area at the park celebration.
