Arctic Blast to Hit Southern States Next Week, Bringing Possible Frozen Precipitation!

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – A major cold wave is expected next week as Arctic air from Canada moves south. There’s even a chance of frozen precipitation, but it’s still uncertain.

For now, we’ll enjoy warmer weather. Today, temperatures will climb back into the 60s, and by Saturday, they might hit 70. Expect sunny skies today and tomorrow.

The big chill starts on Sunday when highs will drop to the 40s. By Monday (MLK Day) and Tuesday, temperatures might stay in the 30s.

The big question is whether a strong enough low-pressure system in the Gulf will bring moisture into the cold air.

If it does, we could see frozen precipitation. However, recent trends suggest a dry cold might be more likely.

Hard freeze conditions are expected for most areas next week. Use the warm weather this weekend to wrap your pipes and prepare. Stay updated as the forecast develops.
