HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – Clouds are expected to cover much of Nebraska tonight, with a few flurries or light snow possible. A stalled front in central Nebraska will shift into a warm front, moving east.
By Wednesday, the front will slowly continue eastward, and skies will clear up. The weather will turn milder, with temperatures reaching the 40s for most of the area.
Some places in Eastern and Southeast Nebraska will still be colder, with highs in the 30s due to lingering snow on the ground.
Wednesday night will be warmer with lows in the mid to upper 20s, and Thursday looks like the warmest day ahead, with highs reaching into the 40s and 50s.
However, Friday brings a change. While temperatures will still be above average for much of the day, an Arctic cold front will roll through, bringing a dramatic drop in temperatures.
Highs on Friday will be in the 40s for most of the state, with Southwest Nebraska and North Central Kansas seeing highs in the upper 40s.
The Panhandle and Sandhills will be much colder, with highs only in the 30s, and it could even be below freezing in the Pine Ridge area.
As the cold front pushes south, expect clouds, gusty winds, and a significant temperature drop. Late Friday into Friday night, light snow may fall in Western Nebraska, with chances increasing the farther west you go.
Saturday will remain cold, with highs ranging from around 10° in the Pine Ridge to the low 20s south of the Platte River.
The coldest air will move in Saturday night and last through Monday. Sunday will see temperatures near 0° in the Pine Ridge and low 10s south of the Platte River. On Monday, temperatures will stay in the single digits to mid-teens.
Expect cold nights, especially on Saturday and Sunday, with lows falling below zero and wind chill values between -10° and -30°.
It will be even colder on Sunday night, with temperatures plunging to the single digits below zero, and wind chill reaching the -10° to -30° range.
By Tuesday, temperatures will return to the 20s and 30s, and 30s and 40s will make a return next Wednesday.
This mild weather should continue through the next Thursday and Friday. But for now, brace for the cold this weekend!
