Georgia’s largest supermarket chain is closing, forcing customers to look for alternative stores and travel farther for necessities.
On July 12, Walmart said that it would shut two more Georgian sites.
The Neighborhood Market on Roswell Road in Marietta and the Walmart on Ashford Dunwoody Road in Dunwoody are the two sites that are impacted.
On June 14, the Georgia businesses received notice of the upcoming closures.
Both the 92 workers in Marietta and the 295 employees at the Dunwoody store will be impacted.
Due to poor performance, the two stores are closing.
Walmart stated in a news statement that “this decision was not made lightly and was only reached after a careful and thoughtful review process.”

“Unfortunately, some of our roughly 5,000 locations in the United States fall short of our financial targets.
Although our core business is doing well, this store hasn’t done as well as we had intended.
The two shutters’ news comes amid a wave of Walmart store closings.
The Sun says that Walmart shuttered its doors earlier this month in Aurora, Colorado, and last month in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Fremont, California.
Additionally, Walmart shut down all 51 of its US health facilities and virtual care services a few weeks before the shutdown in Georgia.
The firm stated that the facilities, which were opened in 2019, “were not a sustainable business model for us to continue.”
Following reports of the Georgia shutters and community concerns, Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch made a statement.
The mayor expressed her dismay in a message that she put up on her official Facebook page.
She commented earlier this month, “I am surprised and disappointed that Wal-Mart has announced that the Ashford-Dunwoody store is closing.”
“We are concerned for the employees, some of whom have been there for a long time,” she wrote after expressing her concern for the Walmart staff.
Residents who depend on the two Walmarts for food may also find it difficult as a result of the closures.
They will now have to go somewhere else to shop or make the longer trip to the nearest Walmart.
