According to her family, a young girl from Arizona came dangerously close to losing her limb after a rattlesnake bit her 30 hours before she realized what had happened.

The 7-year-old Allie Brasfield was jogging along a canal at Gilbert Regional Park on Monday, Sept. 16, when she had an accident, according to Arizona’s Family.

“It didn’t hurt right away,” Allie said, according to NBC affiliate KNPX. No one heard a rattle, and no one saw a snake, her mother Amber Brasfield said afterward.

FOX affiliate KSAZ-TV reports that Allie’s mother told the station that her daughter finished the run but then complained of swelling and soreness in her ankles upon arriving home.

Allie quickly became aware that she was sick. Her worried parents rushed her to many emergency departments, but none of them could put a finger on what was wrong.

She was finally identified with a rattlesnake bite when the family made it to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Doctors didn’t begin treating Allie’s bite for more than 30 hours after the bite occurred.

The good news is that Allie’s life and leg were both spared by the medical staff. In reaction to the incident, Allie had two operations and was given forty vials of anti-venom.

“Watching your child sob in agony and being powerless to alleviate it was likely the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to endure,” Amber remarked, as reported by Arizona’s Family.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help Allie’s family after the unexpected emergency, and it said that Allie was scheduled for her third surgery on Monday, September 30.

According to KSAZ-TV, Amber stated that her daughter Allie is “making good progress” in terms of her health, but that she still “has a long road” ahead of her.

Arizona’s Family reports that the mother added, “They’re hoping that just with physical therapy and occupational therapy that she will be able to make full recovery.”. “Her case is out of the ordinary in every way.”
